ABOUT

Nia CC is an American pop-soul singer songwriter whose music sounds like her diary fell into a guitar and started telling stories. An evocative writer, Nia CC’s bubbly lyrical spontaneity is equally at ease with lighthearted observations about relationships as it is in describing what it’s like growing up as a person of color in the US. “My music is like a cloud, sometimes dreary, sometimes rainy and sometimes cheerful, but always moving.”

“Captures the tangle of dashed and remodeled hopes in tough times.” - Daily Progress

Nia CC began taking piano lessons at the age of 4, and wrote her first song, about Disney World, when she was 8 years old, realizing early on that songwriting was something she wanted to do. At age 12, she taught herself how to play the guitar and the ukulele. Throughout school she was active in choirs, and took dance classes ranging from ballet to jazz and hip hop. Having studied music and African-American studies at the University of Virginia, she wrote her thesis album "On Trial," to explore the history and dynamics of Blackness at UVA through a collection of songs. Nia CC has a catalogue of 500+ songs to her name and is currently based in Los Angeles.

“Specifically relating to the legacy of slavery on at UVA… writing “Home” after Floyd’s death helped her to sort through her own emotions and all of the information online and on television. The words came flooding out.” -UVA TODAY

“My decision to go to college and simultaneously pursue music was extremely important to me as a Black woman living in a nation where people of color often don’t get the opportunity to pursue education. I’m pursuing the double life of an academic scholar and rockstar, a Black woman playing the guitar and writing songs.”
